Description
This spear gun was made by Rene Cavelero in Marseille, France. It was distributed in the U.S. by U.S.Divers. The only reference to U.S.Divers on the gun is the stamp on one side of the extra handle, about half way down the barrel. Check out the 6th photo. It includes the Broxton Ave. address. According to the Vintage Scuba Supply web site, the Broxton Ave. address was used from 1953 to 1956. I have a 1963 catalog that still shows this model spear gun, but the West Warner Ave. company address. Cavalero eventually began his own distribution company in the U.S. called (you may have guessed it) U.S.Cavelero. This gun is in remarkably good condition considering it's possible 65 years of age. The trigger mechanism seems very smooth. It releases easily, without any pressure from the slings. The safety works fine. The slings need to be replaced and that may take some research to see if they are available. The spear shaft is a bit rusty and it has a very small bend in the middle. I have not tried hard to unscrew the spear tip. It seems to be rusted in place. The barrel is in excellent condition. No significant scratches. No dents. The total length of the spear gun, with the spear in place is about 52". The difference between the Deluxe and the Standard models is the length (52" vs 42"), 4 "elastics" vs 2 "elastics"The price does NOT include shipping
