For sale is an originalVintage JOB CIGARETTE ROLLING PAPERS Advertising Figure Paperboy Character Doll
.
This is an unusual and hard to find collectible advertising figure for J🔸B cigarette papers.
This distinguished French company has been around for more than 150 years. The diamond logo between the J and B was frequently mistaken for the letter O, so they filed a patent as JOB Cigarette Papers. By the 1890's they were having magnificent art nouveau posters created for them by Alphonse Mucha as advertisements.
By the late 1960's to early 1970's they were advertising to an entirely new generation of roll-your-own enthusiasts. This clever vinyl figure was created by them in 1973. Who better to sell cigarette rolling papers than the classic newspaper boy?
He is made of molded vinyl and hand painted with bright colors. The newspaper that he is holding up in his hand has the J🔸B logo, and the bottom of the paper is curled into a small shelf. It just happens to be the exact size to hold and proudly display a pack of their rolling papers. The empty shoulder bag at his side can hold papers as well. I believe this guy was created as a small counter display for shops selling rolling papers.
This figure is 7 3/4 “ tall and is in excellent condition. No noticeable paint loss and the colors are bold featuring primarily 60’s chartreuse green. There are a couple small marks of paint or ink on the base which do not detract from the overall cool look of this guy. He is stamped “C ADAMS DPLL DIST 1973”.
He is a very unique piece of advertising art and perfect for the collector of tobacciana, cigarettes, rolling papers, cannabis, distillery, Americana, or just the nostalgic recreational user.
