RARE! "Westcrest" Portland, OR Wet Suit w/box Healthways Scuba Regulator & MoreThis auction is for a lot of rare vintage scuba items, including a "Westcrest" branded wet suit from Portland, Oregon. I couldn't find any Westcrest wet suits, or really any information about the company except one reference that leads me to believe it was a sporting goods store in the Northwest in the 60s. I am by no means a vintage scuba expert, but I'll try my best to describe these items.
Reach out with any questions, and I'll try to get you an answer!
This lot includes:
A 4-piece vintage Westcrest wet suit. It's small, measures 19" from armpit to armpit. It really looks unused. The bad part about the condition is that the way it was stored there are indentations from either the instruments or snaps that it was boxed with, and I don't think you'll be able to get these out. Seen mostly on the right front side of the jacket, below the logo. There is also some mildew on the suit, and I like to leave the cleaning of these rare items to the new owner so I don't screw it up, but I did take a mild soap and water to a test spot and it seems to come right off. The four pieces are the jacket, the pants, a short sleeved shirt and a cap.
The branded box for the wet suit, that says Westcrest in script, with PORTLAND 9, OREGON below it in caps. The box is only in fair condition. It is structurally sound, with only one of the top corners torn. There are lots of stains, a couple of tears, and someone wrote the measurements to something faintly in pen on the front cover. Then some crazy person wrote in black marker Scuba on the side flap of the bottom of the box, which sort of ruins it, but hey, when it's closed you don't see it, and the iconic PORTLAND 9, OREGON is pretty awesome.
A Healthways Scuba-Vest life vest. Black on one side, orange on the other. The belt needs cleaning, but is sound with all the parts working. Not tested.
A Healthways 6958 SCUBAIR single hose regulater. The chrome on this is pitted on the top and in spots. The rest should clean up nicely.
A Healthways Depth Gauge, and what's cool about this one is it says LOS ANGELES, CALIF and was made by the Marsh Instruments Company, known for their precision gauges and instruments, and still around today. I have not seen another one of these anywhere online, so this might be a rare item.
A Scubapro wrist type depth gauge made in Italy, SOS. Has some scratches on the surface, but otherwise good condition.
A vintage floating dive compass with a domed top in reallly nice condition. I can't find one of these online, and no maker's mark that I can find.\
A vtg. 2 lb. belt weight.
An old dive flag, stained
A vtg. bottle of NEOPREME CEMENT from COUGAR SPORTS INC., Bronx NY. It has a cute seahorse, and I know some people like the old accessories. The cement inside is not usable.
What a great lot of vintage scuba gear, that hasn't seen the light of day for decades. It will make a great addition to someone's vintage scuba collection!
