Thank you for viewing this no reserve auction for an amazing Heath Kit GR-81 3 vacuum tube communications radio which appears to have hardly been used in beautiful condition.  That also explains why the tubes test as new and internal components operating as new, after taking temperature readings. All the bands operate with the regenerative whistle and cut out point, all A OK. This radio, in the condition it is in, is 2nd only to an un-assembled kit. Recent GR-81 radios have sold as high as 0.  This is a 120VAC 60 HZ radio but can be used internationally at 50 HZ with the proper step down transformer. HISTORY: Fred Osterman, renowned expert and author of SHORTWAVE RECEIVERS PAST AND PRESENT, states that this receiver is considered SCARCE in the Rarity rating category on page 198 of his third edition published in 1998. This radio has undoubtedly become even rarer in the last 23 years, since his rating evaluation, particularly in this amazing condition, with factory fresh performance.

is a three tube four band
regenerative
set covering 140kHz to 18 mHz. Tubes are 35W4 as rectifier, 50C5 for audio output and a 12AT7 dual triode as the regenerative RF detector and a first stage of audio.
TESTING: Tested this radio this week with an external antenna connected and suitable ground and all bands worked properly hearing the regenerative whistle to the cut out point. Pilot light works also.  All controls operate smoothly as factory fresh. The AC cord is original and flexible, not brittle or cracked. You may not see one in this excellent condition for a very long time. If you desire to have the very best collectible radios, this may very well be the radio for you. The value of these simple communications HeathKit radios are going up every year, or by the month. This model seems to be out pacing the Knight Kit Ocean Hopper in recent months.
