Dark Reddish Amber Hoppe & Strub Bottling Toledo Ohio Blob Top Bottle Script Embossed
Very early (1870-1890) dark reddish brown mineral water bottle in excellent condition.
Beautiful stylized script lettering embossed up near the neck.
No chips, cracks, breaks or damage.
The dark reddish brown amber color is so dark that a high beam flashlight barely shines through.
Measures 11.75" tall
Front (in stylized intertwined lettering) THE H & S B Co
Rear Heel: E H E Co. which equates to Newark Star Glass Works in Newark Ohio
Bottom of bottle: THE HOPPE & STRUB Bottling Co. TOLEDO OHIO.
Here is what I know about the Hoppe & Strub Bottling Company.
The 1889 Polk's Toledo City Directory lists Henry Hoppe as president of the Hoppe & Strub Bottling Co. with his residence at 321 Indiana Street. Listed is Ralph Strub as vice president of the Hoppe & Strub Bottling Co. with his residence at 846 South Street. The company was a Manufacture of Mineral Waters and located at 713 to 717 Adams Street.
By 1896 the company is located at Lafayette & Superior Street now brewing Pabst Milwaukee Beer.
