Description
For your consideration: an A. L. Frommer Philadelphia, PA sided blob / champagne beer bottle. It was blown in decolorized (clear) glass batch into a two-part sided slug plate champagne beer mold and finished with a hand-tooled blob finish in the early 1890's era. This was recovered from a Philadelphia foundation excavation in the last year. It is a unique re-tooled mold. Earlier embossing has been "peened-out" (actually, filled in) of a private mold with an arched embossing pattern. It has been partially "covered" by a cut-in of a three panel slug-plate inside a ten-sided form. Around this three-panel can be seen the "rubbed-out" earlier embossing. Inside the slug-plate: " A. L. Frommer / 316 Nth 2nd St. / Phila. ". "Registered" -embossed across the shoulder of the mother mold. A really great Phila Frankenstein bottle. It is in very good dug condition with no damage. Very light use wear and mild patchy ground wear. It displays amazingly well. Nice stretching throughout the neck area. Small bubbles trapped inside the blob lip. " 243 " -mold code embossed on the base. It measures: 9 3/8" x 2 5/8".
